DEFINE AMERICAN

Who are we & why are we here?

Define American is a non-profit media and culture organization that uses the power of storytelling to transcend politics and shift the conversation about immigrants, identity, and citizenship in a changing America. MSOE's chapter aims to grow and expand the Define American mission around Milwaukee through public discussions, community events, and outreach.

Define American MSOE Chapter 18-19: Welcome

OUR WORK 2018-2019

D.A MSOE has been working on numerous activities to fulfill our goal of changing the perspective towards immigrants around our campus.

We were in contact with Valeria Rodriguez, the National Campus Coordinator for the Chapters, and she helped us find our way into becoming a chapter. While at first our interest in this project stemmed off of helping immigrants as a whole, we soon recognized that there is much work to be done here in Milwaukee, and on our campus, to detract from xenophobia. Despite being a very urban city, Milwaukee is the most segregated city in the United States and there are entire communities which are over 80% immigrants. With such a diverse culture, we don't think it's reasonable for people to continue to be afraid of immigrants. We want to shed light on this and other issues throughout the course of our time here at MSOE.

DEFINE AMERICAN EXECUTIVE BOARD 2018-2019

As an official club, Define American MSOE ran under the traditional roles associated with school organizations. While everyone contributed in different ways, specific people were tasked for specific jobs. Roles were given based off of who was best suited for the roles and throughout the course of the year, everyone learned valuable lessons in their respective areas that needed attention.
