THE CURRICULUM

We wish to alter the curriculum of the occupations offered at Highland Community School to all benefit the cafe in some way so that all students, even if not in the cafe occupation, can be a part of the cafe.

MONTESSORI

Luke researched the Montessori curriculum so we can ensure to keep its most important aspects as we alter it. The Montessori philosophy is rooted in a child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn. Children learn best through hands-on experience, so this is something we intend to put great emphasis on as we alter the curriculum.

COMPOSTING

On Friday, October 18th, 2019 our group attended a composting lecture led by Compost Crusaders at the Milwaukee Public Art Museum. Here we learned composting basics and about the different types of composting. Emma became interested in learning more about composting and chose it for her in-depth research. To communicate her findings in a fun and unique way, Emma created a game for the students to play to determine what kinds of foods can and can not be composted. We wish to look into incorporating composting into the curriculum.
